Practical Wedding Gifts

A few years ago a friend’s daughter was getting married. Like most other people who go shopping for wedding gifts, I downloaded the gift list when I got to the store where they were registered for their wedding gifts. Fortunately the store had just reloaded the paper tray, as this gift list was over twenty pages long. Funny thing is, the couple had been living together on a very nice budget in a home they had already bought in a higher end of town. Their gift list reflected their budget. Unfortunately, their list was way above my mine.

So, instead of the patio table and chairs set, I gave them a nice basket with some picnic linens, some nice plastic cups and plates that matched, a few little odds and ends and then wished them well. Sometimes that’s just how it is.

If you’re in a similar dilemma as you contemplating purchasing a wedding gift, consider something that might compliment a gift on the bride and groom’s registry. A gift card, while at one time seeming impersonal, is rather popular nowadays and allows the couple to get something they may need and didn’t think to register for.

Of course, one of the most popular gifts that will never go out of style is plain ‘ol cash or a check made out to the new couple. You can never go wrong there. That’s always appreciated, especially before they leave for their honeymoon.

For really practical ideas how about:

George Foreman Grill – Comes in a few different sizes, easy to clean, easy to store, easy to use.

Bath towels – Never go out of style and you can always use a few extra.

Ice chest or nice basket – Fill with picnic goodies, including a table cloth or light blanket, plastic/paper goods, bottle of wine or sparkling cider, fancy crackers and cheese, a book of romantic poems. You could also include a gift card for purchasing perishable picnic items.
