Formerly known as Chiavarina or Tiffany chairs, the cabinetmaker Giuseppe Descalzi was commissioned in 1807 by the President of the Economic Society of Chiavari to design these chairs. Inspired by chairs from the French Empire, these chairs grew in popularity and were eventually renamed Chiavari chairs based on the Italian Coastal City name of Chiavari where they were originally conceived. Over 200 years later, Chiavari chairs are still sought after for use at grand events – even being used for the White House State Dinners. However, it was their appearance at celebrity weddings that reinvigorated their popularity and made these chairs the ‘go-to’ chair for your upscale party rental or wedding.
